The FxPro Identity Check for Ugandan Clients
Verification is a document-matching exercise, and finishing it before your first deposit saves the second attempt.
Which documents pass first time
A document passes when it is current, complete and matches the name and address you entered on the form. That means a clear photo or scan of the whole page, all four edges visible, no glare across the text, and no finger covering a corner. The broker asks for proof of identity and proof of address as separate items, and each is judged on the same standard.
For identity, a national ID, passport or driving licence works when the photo, the number and the expiry date are all legible. For address, a document that shows your name and your residential address as you wrote it on the form is what the reviewer is looking for. Our advice is to photograph the document flat on a table in daylight rather than holding it, because hand-held shots are where blur and shadow come from.
Save the files in a common image or PDF format and check the file opens before you upload it. A file that will not open on your own phone will not open on the reviewer's screen either, and that alone sends a submission back.
What sends a document back
The usual return is a mismatch, not a bad document. A middle name missing from the form, an address written one way on the form and another on the statement, a document that has expired, or a photo where the expiry date is cut off, all cause a rejection even when everything else is in order. The reviewer cannot approve a name that does not tie to the application.
The second common cause is an unreadable image: too dark, too small, or a screenshot of a screenshot. The third is submitting the wrong category, such as an identity document where proof of address was requested. None of these are accusations against you, and none of them are final, but each one costs you another round of waiting.
To avoid the second attempt, compare your document to your form line by line before uploading: name spelling, date of birth, address, and the document's validity. If anything differs, correct the profile first rather than uploading and hoping.
Why finish it before the first deposit
Completing verification before you deposit keeps your money and your documents out of the same queue. An unverified account can hold a pending status that blocks trading, so a deposit made first sits idle while the check runs, and if the check needs a second submission the wait compounds. Do the documents first and the deposit goes into an account that is ready.
There is also a practical link between verification and withdrawal. The account a withdrawal is paid to has to belong to the verified person, so the identity you establish now is the identity your Mobile Money payouts will be checked against later. Getting the name and details right at this stage is what makes the payout step straightforward.
Once the account is verified, you can size your first gold trade with real numbers instead of estimates. Run the reference price of about 4275.0 through our pip value and margin calculators so the first position you place is one you have already measured, not one you are discovering live.
Why Uganda's AML rules require identity checks before you trade gold
The check exists because Ugandan anti-money-laundering law requires financial service providers to know who their customers are before accepting funds. FxPro, as the entity serving Uganda, must identify you and verify your documents under those obligations, which are enforced locally through the CMA Uganda licensed persons list. The requirement is not a marketing step; it is a legal precondition to holding client money, and it applies whether you fund with Mobile Money or any other method the broker supports.
The law requires the broker to establish your identity, your address, and the source of the funds you deposit, and to keep records that can be shown to a regulator on request. That is why a gold account is not activated the moment you sign up: the broker has to match a real person to the account before a single USh moves. The same rules explain why documents are requested again later, because the obligation is ongoing rather than a one-off gate at sign-up.
For you as a trader, the practical effect is that verification is a compliance step, not a service the broker can waive. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA, and you should confirm any broker on the CMA Uganda licensed persons list before depositing. A broker that skips identity checks is not being convenient; it is failing a legal duty, and that is a warning sign about how it will treat your money later.
Document mistakes that trigger a rejection even when the file looks clear
Most rejections come from small mismatches rather than bad documents: a name spelled differently from the account, a photo page cropped so a corner or the machine-readable strip is missing, glare or shadow across the text, or a scan so compressed the fine print cannot be read. The broker is matching your document against the name and details you entered, so any difference between the two, however minor, is treated as a discrepancy that needs resolving.
Expired documents are rejected outright, and so are documents where the address is not visible or has been edited. A proof of address that shows a different name, a different address from the one on your account, or a date outside the recency window will fail even if the document itself is genuine. Screenshots of a bill rather than a full-page copy, and mobile photos taken at an angle, are common causes of a second request.
The fix is to send a full-page, colour, unobstructed copy where all four corners and every line of text are legible, and to make sure the name and address match what you typed into the account exactly. If your name appears in a different order or with a middle name on one document, say so in the upload rather than letting the reviewer guess. A clean file is faster than a corrected one.
What happens to a deposit sent by Mobile Money before approval
A deposit made before approval is received and held, but it does not activate trading. The broker cannot release the funds into a live gold position until identity checks are complete, so the money sits in a pending state while the file is reviewed. Nothing is lost, but nothing can be traded either, and the delay is entirely on the verification side rather than on the payment.
If the documents are eventually rejected, the deposit is returned to the source, which for a Mobile Money payment means back to the number that sent it. That return can take time and may involve the payment provider's own processing, so the practical cost of depositing early is delay and the risk of a failed transfer rather than a permanent loss. The broker is not permitted to keep funds it cannot attribute to a verified customer.
The safer sequence is to complete verification first and deposit afterwards, so the funds land in an account that is already cleared for trading. This matters more with Mobile Money because the sender number is part of the trail the broker has to reconcile. A deposit from a number that does not match your verified details is exactly the kind of mismatch that creates a query and slows the return.
The suitability questionnaire and what your answers actually change
The suitability questionnaire is how the broker assesses whether gold trading at the available leverage is appropriate for you, and your answers determine whether you are offered the standard onboarding or a more restricted one. It is not a pass-or-fail exam; it records your experience, your understanding of leverage and margin, and your financial circumstances, and the broker uses those answers to decide what it can responsibly offer.
What changes is the level of access and the warnings you receive, not the price of the instrument. If your answers show limited experience, the broker may require you to acknowledge specific risk disclosures before trading gold, and it may decline to offer products or settings it considers unsuitable. The maximum leverage available in Uganda is a cap that applies to the entity serving this country, and it is not a setting to aim at; the questionnaire is where the broker tests whether you understand that distinction.
Answer honestly, because the answers are part of the record the broker relies on and inconsistencies surface later. Claiming experience you do not have does not unlock better terms; it simply means the risk warnings you receive are mismatched to your actual understanding. For a 0.10-lot gold position at the applicable cap, the margin is about $85.50, and knowing what that figure means for your account is the kind of thing the questionnaire is trying to establish.
Proof of address accepted in Uganda and how recent it must be
A proof of address must be a document issued in your name that shows your residential address in Uganda, and it must be recent enough for the broker to treat it as current. Utility bills, bank statements and official government correspondence are the usual categories; the broker's own list is the final word on which specific documents it will take, so check that list before uploading rather than after a rejection.
The recency requirement is a window set by the broker, and the exact number of months depends on its current policy, so confirm it on the document checklist rather than assuming. A document older than that window is treated as out of date even if nothing about your address has changed. Mobile Money statements can serve where they show your name and address clearly, but a statement that shows only a phone number will not meet the requirement.
The document must show the same address you entered on the account, and the name must match your verified identity. If you have recently moved, send a document for the new address and update the account rather than sending an old bill and hoping it passes. A full-page copy with your name, the address and the issue date all legible is what the reviewer needs to see.
When the name on your ID and the name on your payment card differ
A mismatch between the name on your identity document and the name on the payment method is treated as a discrepancy that must be explained and resolved before the funds are released. The broker has to be satisfied that the person funding the account is the verified account holder, because a third-party payment is one of the patterns anti-money-laundering rules are designed to catch. The deposit is not lost, but it is held pending an explanation.
The usual causes are a maiden name, a shortened first name, a middle name omitted at sign-up, or a card issued in a family member's name. The resolution is to provide documentation that links the two names, or to fund from a method in your own verified name. For Mobile Money, the sender number and the registered name behind it are part of the trail, so a payment from someone else's number raises the same query as a third-party card.
The clean approach is to make the account name match your ID exactly at sign-up and to fund only from methods registered in that same name. If a mismatch already exists, raise it with the broker before sending more money rather than after, because each additional mismatched deposit adds to the reconciliation the broker has to do. A name difference is fixable; an unexplained one delays everything.
