FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator do I use first when planning a gold trade?

Use the position size calculator first, because it turns your account risk and stop distance into a lot size. Everything else follows from that number: pip value and margin both depend on the lots you choose, and the profit calculator needs the same lot size to give a meaningful figure.

How does the pip value calculator handle gold rather than forex pairs?

It treats gold as XAU/USD, where one pip is 0.01 and one standard lot is 100 oz, so a one-pip move on a full lot is $1. That differs from a currency pair quoted to four decimals, which is why a gold-specific tool matters. Enter your lot size and it returns the dollar value per pip.

What does the margin calculator tell me that the position size calculator does not?

The margin calculator tells you how much of your balance the broker sets aside to hold the position, while the position size calculator tells you how much you are risking. They answer different questions. For reference, at the applicable cap a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin, which is not the same as your risk on the trade.

Can the profit calculator tell me my exact return in Ugandan shillings?

It gives the result in US dollars from your entry, exit and lot size, and you convert that to USh at the rate you would actually receive. It cannot promise a return, because the exit price is your assumption. Use it to test scenarios, not to forecast what the market will do.

What are pivot points used for on a gold chart?

Pivot points give reference levels for the session based on the prior period's high, low and close, which some traders use to frame where price might pause. They are a map, not a signal, and gold can trade straight through them. Use the pivot points tool alongside your own risk limits.
